Allah is the Arabic word for God.

Allah is the Arabic word for God, is a unique term which has neither gender nor plural form. Allah is the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of the universes and the sole Source of its Guidance. He is, was and always will be. He gives us life and takes it away. We must return to Him after death. Allah says in the Holy Quran:
"The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in His names: for what they do they will soon be requited." [ 7:180 ]

This implies that Allah has beautiful names and we are ordered to seek His help by uttering His names.The Names of Allah are connected with the life of man. All aspects of life can be seen in the Names. Learning the Names by heart is not the aim. The aim is to find the one who is named for expressing our gratitude.
The Qur'an tries to promote this feeling of gratitude by repeating the attributes of Allah very frequently. We find most of these attributes mentioned together in the following verses of the Qur'an."Allah is He than whom there is no other god the sovereign the Holy One the Source of Peace (and Perfection). The Guardian of Faith the Preserver of Safety the Exalted in Might the Irresistible the Supreme: Glory to Allah! (high is He) above the partners they attribute to Him." [59:22,23,24.]
